Exports and check reports

Which file formats you can export, and what a check report looks like.

How to export

The results page of a Style check and the Reformat page both have an Export panel. An Existence check batch has no export. It only decides whether each reference exists. It doesn't correct or change your original citations, so there is nothing to export yet.

Export your reference list

You can export in five formats: .docx, .txt, .pdf, .bib, and .ris.

  • Each reference in the exported file is word for word the same as the one shown on screen in your citation style.
  • The export contains your original text plus the fixes you accepted. Candidates you didn't accept are not exported.
  • The export follows the target citation style and makes details such as the page-range connector and full-width or half-width punctuation consistent. It doesn't change the content of any field.
  • For .bib and .ris, the preview in the panel, the copied text, and the downloaded file are byte-for-byte identical.

Check report

You can get a check report in three formats: .md, .docx, and .pdf. The report lists the result for each reference, a source link, and the time of the check. The report header shows which citation style was used for the check.

Use it to keep a record, send it to your advisor, or attach it to a submission.

History

Past checks are listed by batch in the Check history item in the sidebar and on the history page. You can open or delete any batch. The full text of a check report is kept for 30 days. Records past that time are not deleted automatically. The page keeps a summary of them.

Key points

  • An Existence check batch has no export. To get a formatted list, run a Style check or use Reformat.
  • What you see is what you get: each reference in the file is word for word the same as on the page.
  • Fixes you didn't accept stay as your original text in the export.
